A blue peacock escaped from the Shifeng Zoo in Zhuzhou, Central China's Hunan Province, on March 8. The zoo said that peacocks are usually raised free-range in the zoo and adult peacocks in estrus usually fly out of the garden to find a mate. That afternoon, the peacock was taken back to the zoo.

In the video posted online, a blue peacock suddenly appeared in the Shifeng fire station. With a beautiful crest on its head, the peacock walked elegantly. When it saw people approaching, it flew to a tree.

"We usually take part in social rescue missions such as catching snakes and removing hornets' nests, but this is the first time a peacock has flown to a fire station," a firefighter said, and speculated that the peacock had escaped from the zoo.

A keeper who was familiar with the peacock's habits finally caught the peacock and said that in spring some adult peacocks would fly outside the zoo out of courtship instinct to find a mate. This one is no exception.

According to the zoo manager, there are two other peacocks that had flown to a nearby community and citizens who find the peacock on the loose should call the zoo as soon as possible.
