A man scattering money from the roof of his apartment building on Monday has become the latest news in Shanghai, which has recently been swept by a wave of the COVID-19 outbreak.

A video circulating on social media shows a male resident standing on the roof terrace of an apartment building that was under lockdown because of the epidemic, throwing down many notes, of which there were already many on the ground, in the amount of 100 yuan ($15.7).

Some residents shouted in shock, "What's going on here? Someone has started spilling money!"

In response to the incident, the apartment's property manager confirmed the authenticity of the incident to the media and said the specifics are under investigation.

Many netizens humorously commented that they could understand the man's behavior. "Under the influence of the epidemic and the lockdown, people inevitably want to do something crazy," One comment said. Some netizens also pointed out that the man's psychological state needs more attention.
