From the APEC 2023 to the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference and the ongoing World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland, Chinese firms have been earnestly introducing the green experience to the world, as the world's second-largest economy has been playing its role as a major contributor to the global energy transition with strong investment in recent years.

WEF, also known as the "Davos Forum," will be held in Davos, Switzerland, from January 15 to 19. More than 2,800 representatives from more than 120 countries and regions are gathering to explore the future of the world economy, with "A Long-Term Strategy for Climate, Nature and Energy" being one of the key themes this year.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang will attend the opening ceremony of the forum and deliver a speech as an invited leader.

"By bringing together key stakeholders from across the public and private sectors at Davos, we will drive actions to strengthen the business case for the energy transition and transform energy demand," the WEF said on its official website on Sunday.

Chinese firms and officials are among the key participants. For instance, Zeng Yuqun, the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), will join a session titled "Avoiding a Crunch in Critical Minerals" on Wednesday, to discuss how the industry can ensure reliable and sustainable supply chains for critical minerals.

Representatives from LONGi Green Energy Technology Co, the world's largest manufacturer of solar wafers and solar modules, will attend the forum, the company confirmed with the Global Times on Monday.

The company's manufacturing base in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang Province was honored to be recognized as the world's first "Lighthouse Factory" in the photovoltaic industry at the WEF on Monday. The Lighthouse Factory represents the pinnacle of global excellence in smart manufacturing and digitization.

"LONGi will continue leading the low-carbon and digitized development of the photovoltaic manufacturing industry. At our factory in Baoshan, Southwest China's Yunnan Province, we are constructing it according to the standards of a zero-carbon facility, aiming to create a more environmentally friendly and sustainable production base," Zhong Baoshen, chairman of LONGi, said in a statement sent to the Global Times.

"We look forward to playing a more proactive role in the global energy transition, and contributing greater efforts to promote the widespread adoption and sustainable development of clean energy," Zhong said.

Under the central government's and companies' strong emphasis and investment in the sector, the "new three" has been a buzzword in the nation, with solar cells, lithium-ion batteries and electric vehicles driving China's exports this year.

Exports of the "new three" passed the level of 1 trillion yuan ($140 billion) for the first time in 2023, growing 29.9 percent year-on-year to 1.06 trillion yuan, Chinese customs data showed on Friday.

China has carried out green energy cooperation with more than 100 countries and regions. China-made PV modules and wind turbines hold more than 70 percent of the world market share, making the country an important force in stabilizing global clean energy industry and supply chains, Zhang Shaogang, a vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, said in November at the China International Supply Chain Expo in Beijing.

China's progress in the clean energy sector, which covers the entire industry chains of PV, wind power and new-energy vehicles, provides practical, cost-effective and mutually beneficial solutions for the global green transformation, Lin Boqiang, director of the China Center for Energy Economics Research at Xiamen University, told the Global Times.

"China's clean energy technologies are as advanced as those of developed countries, and practical cooperation between China and other countries will boost technological advances," Lin said, noting that certain Western countries' crackdowns on China would have a negative impact on the world's green energy transition.

"China is a doer in advancing global climate governance. We have not only built the world's largest clean power generation network, but also provided support and assistance in this regard to other developing countries to the best of our capability," Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told a press conference in Beijing on November 28, 2023.

Aside from the UAE's Al Dhafra PV2 Solar Power Plant, China has undertaken other clean energy projects, such as the Sachal wind power project in Pakistan, the Noor III solar-thermal power plant in Morocco, the Al Kharsaah PV power station in Qatar and the Garissa PV power plant in Kenya.

All these projects are vivid examples of China acting on the vision of green development, supporting the green and low-carbon construction and operation of infrastructure and enhancing international cooperation in climate response, Wang said.
