Public transportation police in Beijing have imposed administrative detention on a passenger for verbally abusing others over a seating dispute in accordance with the law, according to a police statement released on Saturday.
According to the police, several netizens reported that the incident took place on Metro Line 5. Upon investigation, the offender, surnamed Zhao, male, 61, got into a dispute with two neighboring passengers over seating issues on Thursday. During the altercation, Zhao repeatedly hurled insults, disrupting public order on the train before being separated by fellow commuters.
The punishment received praise from many netizens after a video circulated online showing Zhao insulting two neighboring passengers, the Beijing Daily reported on Saturday.
The video showed that Zhao mocking and insulting two workers seated next to him for their attire. Another female passenger stood up for them, responding, "I'd gladly sit next to him."
