Public security authorities in Tengzhou, East China's Shandong Province, have placed the individual responsible for a drunk driving incident that killed six people on Sunday under criminal detention, CCTV News reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, a traffic accident occurred in Tengzhou at 4:05 pm on Sunday, resulting in two fatalities, four additional deaths following unsuccessful resuscitation efforts, and two individuals injured but in non-life-threatening condition.

The suspect, a 29-year-old man surnamed Cai, had consumed alcohol during lunch before driving, according to CCTV. The collision occurred when he attempted to forcibly overtake another vehicle, CCTV News reported.

Cai was immediately detained at the scene, and a blood test conducted by local public security authorities confirmed that his blood alcohol level exceeded the limit, while drug-impaired driving was ruled out, said CCTV.

An investigation into the case and follow-up measures are currently ongoing.
