Chinese actress Huang Yangtiantian’s appearance wearing of “high-priced earrings” has sparked heated discussion recently, with multiple related topics trending across Chinese social media.
A staff member from the discipline inspection and supervision authorities in Ya’an told the Modern Express on Saturday that relevant government departments are currently handling the matter.
Huang recently posted photos of her coming-of-age ceremony on social media. The earrings she wore were identified by some netizens as part of a classic collection from a luxury brand, with an official price of around 2.3 million yuan ($319,000), according to Beijing Youth Daily.
Some netizens questioned whether Huang, born in 2007 and still a young actress, should be engaged in such high levels of spending.
In another post, Huang clarified that the earrings were borrowed from her mother.
Some netizens then shifted their focus to the actress’s family and discovered that Huang’s father was formerly a public servant in Ya’an, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
The actress’s management company, Jaywalk Studio, issued a statement on May 16, stating that the reasonable supervision of the public is an important force in maintaining social justice and the rule of law. The company, along with Huang Yangtiantian, and her parents expressed willingness to accept reasonable public oversight but emphasized no tolerance for malicious rumors or defamation. They urged the public not to believe or spread unverified claims, according to the statement.
The company added that any infringing parties would be held fully accountable in accordance with the law to protect Huang’s legitimate rights and interests.
The company reposted a post that same day, which claimed to be from Yang Wei—reportedly Huang’s father. In the post, he explained that recent controversies arose after Huang wore her mother’s decorative earrings during her coming-of-age ceremony, along with some previously worn accessories.
He said that the accessories were neither genuine luxury items nor “high-priced” as speculated online. The items in question have been placed under documented custody (with verifiable timestamps, locations, and witness records) and remain available for authentication by authorized institutions at any time. He added that they will fully cooperate with any investigation by the relevant authorities.
He also addressed online rumors regarding his past positions in government departments.
According to public records cited by Beijing Youth Daily, Huang Yangtiantian was born in July 2007 in Shenzhen, South China’s Guangdong Province. She played the younger version of the protagonist in the 2017 costume drama Princess Agents.
