An inheritor of paper-cutting intangible cultural heritage in Ji’nan city, East China’s Shandong Province, has completed an extraordinary 10-meter-long paper-cut artwork depicting Romance of the Three Kingdoms, with plans to recreate all four classics of Chinese literature through his craft, according to The Paper on Saturday.
With over 40 years of paper-cutting experience, Jiang Qingshui, the inheritor, specializes in portraying characters, The Paper reported.
"This Three Kingdoms piece features 92 distinct figures," Jiang said. "It took me 16 months and about 60 blades to complete the cutting. The biggest challenge was capturing each character's unique personality in paper form."
Jiang said he aims to create paper-cut series for the remaining classics - Journey to the West, Water Margin, and Dream of the Red Chamber.
