As of 5 pm on Monday, an explosion at a local fireworks factory in Linli county of Changde, Central China's Hunan Province, had resulted in one death, six people missing, and nine injuries, the local media outlet Hunan Daily reported. All injured individuals are currently in stable condition without life-threatening injuries, said the report.
The emergency management bureau of Linli issued a notice on Monday morning regarding the explosion at a local fireworks factory, according to the official WeChat account of the emergency management bureau of Changde.
Around 8:23 am on Monday, an explosion occurred at the Shanzhou fireworks factory in Shanzhou village, Linli county. Following the incident, the local Party committee and government responded with great urgency, with relevant officials immediately rushing to the scene to direct rescue efforts, the notice said.
Emergency response teams, including firefighting, police, and health departments, have carried out on-site rescue and disposal operations.
A staff from the emergency management bureau of Changde told the Global Times on Monday morning that further details are still being verified. The number of casualties is currently under investigation, and the cause of the accident is being determined and post-disaster response efforts are underway in an orderly manner.
The company employs over 150 people, and most were not in the explosion area when the incident occurred, Hunan Daily reported. According to a preliminary investigation by the fire department, the building that caught fire was a single-story reinforced concrete structure.
