The drone lights show featuring a dual-formation performance by 11,787 drones was successfully staged in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on Tuesday, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest aerial pattern formed with drones.
The show is structured around the themes of landscapes, culture, daily life, and urban scenes, showcasing Chongqing’s charm through seven major chapters, the Chinanews.com reported.
An estimated 100,000 people watched the performance live, according to the report.
According to the lead organizer of the drone lights show operational center, a total of 11,787 drones performed in dual formation, marking not only a breakthrough in quantity but also a dual challenge of technology and creativity.
Dubbed the "8D magical city" by netizens due to its unique topography, Chongqing also posed challenges for breaking the Guinness World Record including overcoming complex terrain communication coverage, innovating dual-formation flight patterns, and achieving smooth altitude transitions, the organizer said.
To ensure optimal performance, the team conducted numerous tests and rehearsals in the preparatory stage. Each visual pattern and individual drone path was precisely calculated to present Chongqing's beauty within the limited performance time, according to the lead organizer.
The drone lights show successfully broke the Guinness World Record for the largest aerial drone formation, and the certificate was presented in Chongqing on Tuesday evening, the Chinanews reported.
