In response to recent remarks by Larry Rubin, president of the American Society of Mexico, who brazenly asserted that Mexico should avoid drawing closer to BRICS members, especially Russia and China, the Chinese Embassy in Mexico said in a statement on Friday that "such comments deliberately invoke China to malign cooperation among Global South nations, revealing the deeply ingrained hegemonic mindset of certain US figures with ulterior motives." The Embassy expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition.

As a businessman, Rubin should focus on promoting economic and trade ties, yet he has adopted a self-appointed lecturer tone to dictate how the Mexican government should conduct its foreign relations—an arrogance that is shameful, said the statement.

Ironically, while he decries Mexico "avoiding" other countries, the US government itself repeatedly targets Latin American nations with punitive measures on tariffs, immigration, and security, always shifting the burden onto its neighbors. "Who, then, is truly meddling and sowing division? Who is undermining cooperation and stirring up confrontation? Who, under the guise of 'concern,' actually harms Mexico's own interests? The Mexican people have long seen the truth," said the statement. 

"China's engagement with Latin American countries is built on genuine mutual support and shared progress, not zero-sum games or winner-takes-all geopolitical calculations. We advise Rubin and his ilk: if you truly care about Latin America, remove your tinted lenses, respect other nations' sovereign choices, and stop manufacturing the so-called 'China threat.' No amount of misleading rhetoric can deceive the world," said the statement.
