Police in Qingyunpu district of Nanchang city, East China's Jiangxi Province, issued a statement on Tuesday that a suspect surnamed Xi has been criminally detained following a fatal assault incident, and that the case is under investigation.
The statement said that an assault occurred in Qingyunpu district of Nanchang on Sunday. The police rushed to the scene after receiving a report, handled the situation, and arranged medical treatment for the injured person.
According to a preliminary investigation, at around 1:40 pm that day, the suspect, surnamed Xi, a 23-year-old man from Gao'an, another city in Jiangxi, with a history of treatment for mental illness, attacked two people, surnamed Liu and Shi, with a pair of scissors. Liu died despite rescue efforts, while Shi was taken to hospital and is not in life-threatening condition.
Xi has been placed under criminal detention, and the case is under investigation, the statement said.
