At Chimelong Safari Park, in South China's Guangdong Province, a video captured on Tuesday shows a chimpanzee repeatedly striking a bird with a bamboo pole. Another chimpanzee approached to intervene but was unsuccessful in stopping the aggression. The video quickly went viral after being shared by visitors, Hongxing News reported.

According to Hongxing News, park staff reported on Friday that the bird involved was a Yellow-billed Stork, which has since been taken to a veterinary facility for treatment and is recovering with no life-threatening injuries.

Footage shared by visitors reveals the chimpanzee striking the bird while multiple onlookers witnessed the incident. Initially, the bird struggled but became motionless after repeated blows. Another chimpanzee came over to "break up" the altercation, trying to calm the aggressive chimp, but the aggressor persisted, leaving visitors visibly concerned.

One visitor even shouted, "Stop hitting it!" Eventually, the chimpanzee threw the bird out of the enclosure, and staff promptly came to rescue the bird for medical attention.

Many netizens expressed surprise at the chimpanzee's tool use to strike the bird, while others found humor in the intervening chimp's behavior. According to the video uploader, surnamed Ma, the bird was not killed and was rescued by staff shortly after being thrown out, said the report.
