The episcopal ordination ceremony of bishop Wang Zhengui of the Catholic diocese of Zhangjiakou was held on Wednesday at the Catholic church in Zhangjiakou, North China's Hebei Province, according to the website of Catholic Church in China.
The ceremony was presided over by Li Shan, president of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association and bishop of diocese of Beijing. Guo Jincai, bishop of the diocese of Chengde and vice president of the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, and other concelebrants read out the letter of approval from the conference. Over 50 priests from Hebei, along with nuns, seminarians, and about 300 lay representatives, attended the ceremony, according to Catholic Church in China.
Bishop Wang was born on November 19, 1962, in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, and was given the baptismal name Joseph. From 1984 to 1988, he studied philosophy and theology at the Hebei Catholic Seminary.
He was ordained a priest on May 24, 1990. On August 15, 1996, he was elected vicar general of the diocese of Zhangjiakou. In October 2007, he became deputy secretary-general of the Hebei Catholic Patriotic Association and Catholic Administrative Commission, and in December 2013, he was appointed deputy director of the two organizations. On March 28, 2025, he was elected Bishop-designate of the diocese of Zhangjiakou, according to Catholic Church in China.
