China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has officially launched a new reporting platform, aiming to further streamline public reporting channels and crack down on crimes related to environmental resources, food, and drugs in accordance with the law, according to the MPS website on Thursday.
The public can access it by visiting the "Internet plus government services" online platform, selecting the "direct access to police units" section, and choosing the "environmental, food, and drug crime investigation" option, according to the MPS.
An MPS official said that the public is encouraged to use this reporting platform to promptly and lawfully report suspected crimes involving environmental pollution, harm to nationally protected birds and other wildlife, illegal occupation of farmland, illegal mining, illegal or excessive logging of forest resources, destruction of ancient or famous trees, as well as crimes endangering environmental resources and food and drug safety.
Public security authorities will implement a mechanism of "unified acceptance, graded responsibility, and division of handling." They will provide timely feedback to whistleblowers, and strictly protect their privacy, safety, and lawful rights and interests, according to the MPS.
Since the beginning of this year, public security authorities have filed and investigated more than 7,000 criminal cases involving offenses against birds and other wildlife, arresting over 11,000 suspects and effectively protecting bird and other wildlife resources. The MPS has released five typical cases of crimes involving harm to birds nationwide, according to the official WeChat account of the MPS News Media Center.
