The 2025 Beijing International Week for Science Literacy opened at the Beijing Science Center on Tuesday. With the theme Science Communication in the Age of AI, the event aims to harness the power of AI as a driver of science communication, foster global dialogue, enhance public scientific literacy, and address the shared challenges of future societal development.
Experts, scholars, and project leaders from international organizations, science festivals, science centers and museums, as well as science communication enterprises gathered for the opening ceremony. Several guests delivered remarks on the value of science communication, the challenges of the AI era, and the importance of international cooperation.
"Science communication is a bridge between science and society, fundamental to nurturing an innovation culture and achieving sustainable urban development," said Li Xin, Executive Vice President of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, during an opening speech.
Lazzat Kussainova, Chairperson and Chief Researcher of the International Centre of Scientific Collaborations (Kazakhstan), highlighted the support that youth in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan have received through partnerships with Chinese organizations. She noted that these young people now regularly participate in summer camps, workshops, science competitions, and technology exchanges with China.
The Global Times learned from the Beijing Science Center that during the event, activities include academic dialogue, international science festival roundtable, and international science education expo. Combining academic exchange with achievement showcasing, the event features a diverse range of activities to promote mutual learning, resource integration, and international consensus, ultimately working together to improve public scientific literacy.
