Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in New York on Thursday local time and the two sides had a candid, in-depth, and constructive exchange of views on China-US relations and international and regional issues of mutual concern, according to a release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Ma elaborated on China's principled position, stressing that China and the US should adhere to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and promote the stable, sound, and sustainable development of China-US relations.
Ma emphasized that the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair and concerns China's core interests. China urges the US to truly adhere to the one-China policy, honor its political commitments, and take concrete actions to safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, according to the release.
Both sides agreed to maintain communication and dialogue, effectively manage differences, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation, according to the release.
