In response to a media inquiry on that Taro Aso, the supreme advisor of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party, met with the head of Taiwan region's "legislative body" and claimed that "Taiwan is a country that shares fundamental values with Japan," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that certain Japanese politicians have repeatedly provoked and stirred up trouble on the Taiwan question, which seriously violates the one-China principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, and grossly interferes in China's internal affairs. China is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposed, and has lodged stern representations through diplomatic channels.

Guo stressed that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. This is the real status quo in the Taiwan Straits. The Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation explicitly stipulated that Chinese territories stolen by Japan, including Taiwan and the Penghu Islands, should be returned to China. These form an important part of the post-World War II international order. Taiwan is a province of China and has never been a country. The Taiwan question concerns China's core interests, the political foundation of China-Japan relations, and the basic trust between the two countries.

Guo said that this year marks both the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's recovery from Japanese occupation. Given its historical responsibility for the war crimes on the Taiwan question, Japan should be especially prudent in its words and actions.

Guo said that China urges Japan to abide by the principles and spirit of the four political documents between the two countries, handle Taiwan question properly, and fulfill its commitment of fully understanding and respecting that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China. Japan must not conduct any form of official exchanges with Taiwan under any pretext, must not take risks or provoke on the Taiwan question, and must not underestimate the strong determination, firm will, and powerful capability of the Chinese people to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
