The Chiping branch of the Liaocheng Public Security Bureau in East China’s Shandong Province, issued a notice on Wednesday about a drunk-driving accident on Tuesday that caused eight deaths and four injuries.
A drunk-driving incident causing multiple casualties occurred at 22:46 on Tuesday. After receiving the report, the police immediately dispatched police officers to the scene to conduct an investigation, and carry out rescue efforts and medical treatment, said a police notice released by the Chiping branch of the Liaocheng Public Security Bureau, on Wednesday via its official WeChat account.
According to the investigation, a male surnamed Du, 37-year-old, drove a small car while intoxicated, traveling eastward on Xinzheng Road, and collided with several electric bicycles. The crash left one person dead, seven others later died despite rescue efforts at hospitals, and four people were hospitalized with stable vital signs, according to the police notice.
Du has been placed under control by the public security authorities. A preliminary investigation indicates the accident was caused by his drunk driving; his blood alcohol concentration was 195.3 mg/100 ml, and drug-impaired driving has been ruled out. The case is under further investigation, said the police notice.
