In response to a question from a foreign journalist about Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal claiming that he was denied a visa by China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday that China issues visas for athletes from all countries, including India, in accordance with laws and regulations.
Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal posted on X on Tuesday claiming his visa was rejected for no reason before he was supposed to fly to China soon for the Australian Open playoff.
Lin expressed hope that the individual concerned will submit application materials in line with the requirements of the Chinese Embassy in India in a timely manner.
The Australian Open's Asia-Pacific wildcard playoff is scheduled for November 24-29 in Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan.
