Several Philippine media outlets have reported the news of China's announcement that it will provide cash and emergency supplies assistance to help the Philippine people weather the aftermath of recent typhoons. Meanwhile, some Philippine netizens expressed gratitude in the comments section of a Facebook post by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, describing the aid as "making the Philippines know that we have you as our neighbor with ties beyond written history."
Recently, multiple areas in the Philippines have suffered significant casualties and property damage due to typhoons. In the spirit of humanitarianism and out of the friendship between the Chinese and Philippine peoples, China will donate cash and other supplies to the country, The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines said on Tuesday via its official Facebook account.
The embassy said that immediately after these typhoons, relevant Chinese provinces, Chinese businesses in the Philippines, and local Chinese communities extended a helping hand to the affected population.
"We sincerely hope that the Filipino people in the disaster-stricken areas will recover and rebuild their homes soon," the embassy said.
Philippine media outlets including Philippine News Agency and Manila Bulletin covered China's aid after the embassy's announcement.
China's aid to the Philippines has been praised by some Philippine netizens, some of whom have also posted comments under the Facebook account of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines.
One netizen named Willard Gallo wrote, "Thank you very much for extending much needed assistance… But so much more, thank you for making the Philippines know that we have you as our neighbor with ties beyond written history. May it prosper once again."
Another netizen named Aminah Din commented, "Nowadays, I do not see many countries donating to Philippines in times of need, for very obvious reasons. Thank you China for always extending your humanitarianism to the needy."
Global Times reporters noted that the phrase "Thank you China" also appeared frequently in the comment sections.
In the spirit of humanity and friendship toward the Philippine people, China has provided assistance in cash and emergency supplies to the Philippines, and some Chinese provinces are also extending a helping hand through channels between sister provinces, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Tuesday when asked to provide more details regarding assistance to the Philippines after it was recently been hit by multiple rounds of typhoons.
"We mourn for the lives lost and extend sympathies to the families whose loved ones died or went missing in the typhoons. Our hearts go out to those affected by the disaster," said Lin, adding, "We wish those affected will recover from the disaster and rebuild their homes at an early date."
Casualty numbers from Typhoon Tino rose to 232, with 523 injured and 112 missing, the Manila Times reported on Tuesday, citing the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Monday that Typhoon Fung-wong has claimed two lives and affected over 1.4 million people nationwide, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
