It is hoped that South Korea-US alliance won't play fire over the Taiwan question, said Chinese Ambassador Dai Bing during a meeting with journalists from more than 30 mainstream Chinese and South Korean media outlets held on Thursday, according to a release by the Chinese Embassy in South Korea's official WeChat account on late Friday. Recently, the erroneous remarks on Taiwan made by Japan's new prime minister are utterly unacceptable, and China has stated its solemn position and lodged stern representations with the Japanese side, Dai said.

Dai made the remarks at the Thursday event when asked to comment on a question raised by a South Korean reporter on how to view the possible implications of the "modernization of the South Korea-US alliance" might involve containing China and even intervening in a cross-Straits situation.

How to resolve the Taiwan question and realize national reunification is entirely China's internal affair and brooks no external interference. The fact that the country remains yet to be reunified is an enduring pain in the hearts of the Chinese people, the ambassador said, while warning that any country or individual that dares to stab in the wounds of the Chinese people will be met with a strong and resolute response from China.

Dai elaborated that the South Korea-US alliance is a product of history, and its positioning is well known to all.

China and countries in the region are closely following the so-called "modernization of the South Korea-US alliance." If the strategic objectives of the alliance undergo any change, China's attitude toward it will adjust accordingly, Dai stated.

Dai underscored that the one-China principle is the political foundation for China to establish and develop diplomatic relations with all countries, including the South Korea, and constitutes a political commitment made by those countries to China.
