In response to a question regarding that the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated recently crimes targeting Chinese nationals in Japan have been on the rise and it had advised Chinese citizens to avoid traveling to Japan for the time being, but the Japanese side has released data on crimes involving Chinese nationals in Japan, claiming that China's concerns do not match the facts, Mao Ning, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said on Wednesday that crimes targeting Chinese nationals in Japan are indeed occurring frequently. "Just last week, we noted that Japanese police arrested five suspects involved in assaulting Chinese nationals."
"There is also a large amount of extreme and threatening rhetoric against China circulating online in Japan. In addition, Chinese embassies and consulates in Japan have recently been repeatedly harassed by right-wing groups both on-site and online," she said. "We urge the Japanese side to take China's concerns seriously and to take concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals and Chinese institutions in Japan," Mao added.
