In response to a foreign media inquiry regarding the presidential election in Honduras, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday that the election is the domestic affair of Honduras. China follows the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs.

Lin pointed out that since the establishment of China-Honduras diplomatic relations in March 2023, the relationship has grown rapidly with fruitful cooperation in various fields and tangible benefits for the two peoples. China stands ready to work with Honduras to further advance bilateral relations on the basis of the one-China principle and better benefit our peoples.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, voting in Honduras' nationwide elections officially ended at 6:00 pm on Sunday (0000 GMT Monday). However, thousands of voters were still casting their ballots, as the country's Electoral Law stipulates that polling stations may only close once the last person who was in line at the official closing time has voted.

Reuters reported that Honduran presidential candidates Nasry Asfura and Salvador Nasralla were practically tied in the latest vote count on Monday, with both holding just under 40 percent of the vote in a tight race beset by problems with the results website.
