Asked about German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul's visit to China from December 8 to 9, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday that China and Germany are comprehensive strategic partners, and over the 53 years since diplomatic ties were established, bilateral relations have maintained sound development momentum and delivered tangible benefits to both countries and their peoples. The phone call between leaders of the two countries in May pointed the direction for development of bilateral relations, Guo said.

Guo noted that in the current complex and volatile international landscape, as major powers and key global economies, consolidating and developing bilateral relations is not only in the interests of both countries but also conducive to promoting world peace and prosperity. This visit marks Foreign Minister Wadephul's first to China since taking office, and the two foreign ministers will engage in in-depth discussions on China-German and China-European relations, as well as international and regional hotspots of common concern.

China consistently views its relationship with Germany from a strategic and long-term perspective and is ready to work with the German side to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, strengthen strategic communication, enhance mutual understanding and trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-Germany relations, said the spokesperson.
