Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office
The Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair; resolving the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese people and brooks no external interference. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' stubborn adherence to the "Taiwan independence" separatist stance and continued collusion with external forces to make provocations and seek "independence" are the root cause of tensions and instability in the Taiwan Straits, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a Wednesday's press conference when asked to comment on a new US national security strategy mentioning Taiwan region eight times.
The recently released US 2025 National Security Strategy mentioned Taiwan eight times, including Taiwan's semiconductor industry and so-called strategic importance, and claimed to not support any unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the Taiwan Straits. Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te "thanked" the US National Security Strategy for prioritizing deterring a conflict over Taiwan.
Chen said that the US should strictly abide by the one China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, honor the serious political commitments made by US leaders, handle the Taiwan question with caution, stop condoning and supporting "Taiwan independence" separatist forces in "seeking independence through military buildup," and stop sending any wrong signals to them.
Chen warned the DPP authorities that attempts to seek "independence by relying on external forces" or "independence through military buildup" are doomed to fail.
