China firmly opposes any form of military contact between the US and China's Taiwan region and urges the US to abide by its serious political commitments to China on the Taiwan question and stop "arming Taiwan," Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at Wednesday, in response to newly released text of a draft of the US National Defense Authorization Act, which reportedly includes up to $1 billion in military assistance for Taiwan in 2026 and requires US Secretary of War to launch a joint unmanned systems development plan with Taiwan before March 2026.

Chen pointed out that the US Congress' bill deliberately included negative content related to Taiwan, which seriously violates the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, and sends a seriously wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. The DPP authorities' attempt to "seek independence by relying on the US" will not bring safety or peace and will only lead to disaster and self-destruction, Chen said.
