In response to a question from a Japanese media reporter that after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks on Taiwan question, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has arranged meetings with ambassadors from Southeast Asian countries and others countries in Beijing, asking them to support China's position, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains normal working contacts with the embassies of various countries in China. Guo added that the one-China principle is a universally recognized basic norm of international relations and a prevailing consensus of the international community, including Southeast Asian nations.

The spokesperson said that Japanese Prime Minister's fallacious remarks on Taiwan seriously violate international law and the basic norms of international relations, and openly challenge the outcomes of WWII victory and international justice. The dangerous trend of Japanese militarism revival has drawn high vigilance from countries and peoples in the region. To safeguard the post-war international order and uphold human conscience and justice serves the common interests of all parties and is an inevitable choice for every nation.

We have noted that many countries in the region have recently reiterated their commitment to adhering to the one-China principle, opposing "Taiwan independence," supporting China's reunification, and remaining vigilant against and rejecting the revival of militarism. The Japanese side should earnestly heed these concerns, sincerely repent and correct its past mistakes, rather than obfuscate facts or sow discord, Guo said.
