Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Thursday at a regular press briefing that China supports Venezuela's request to convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. 

Guo made the remarks when responding to a question about the US further intensifying pressure on Venezuela and having called for a UN Security Council meeting. 

Guo said China opposes all forms of unilateral bullying and supports countries in safeguarding their sovereignty and national dignity. He stressed that Venezuela has the right to independently develop mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries, adding that China believes the international community understands and supports Venezuela's position in defending its legitimate rights and interests.
