Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun
When asked to comment on a resolution submitted by certain US senators that voiced support for Japan and accused China of so-called "economic and military pressure" on Japan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday's press conference that safeguarding the outcomes of the victory in WWII and upholding the post-war international order is the shared responsibility of the international community, including China and the US, and that justice and morality reside in the hearts of the people.
Guo pointed out that the fallacious remarks made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have not only aroused strong indignation among the Chinese people, but have also drawn many objective and rational opposing and critical voices within Japan, in the US strategic community, and across the international public opinion arena. What the Japanese side should do is to listen carefully and reflect deeply, rather than making excuses, lobbying, shifting responsibility, or rallying support internationally.
Guo said that China once again urges Japan to earnestly reflect and correct its mistakes, honestly withdraw Takaichi's erroneous remarks, fully and accurately explain the political commitments Japan has made on the Taiwan question in the four China-Japan political documents, and faithfully fulfill the obligations of a defeated country as stipulated in documents with full effect under international law, including the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender.
