Shanghai Hongkou authority designates civil affairs bureau as estate administrator of 46-year-old woman who lived alone and died with no children

Civil affairs authorities in Shanghai's Hongkou district released a notice on their official WeChat account on Wednesday, stating that the Shanghai Hongkou District People's Court has designated the Hongkou district civil affairs bureau as the estate administrator of Jiang Ting, who died on December 14 at age 46. 

According to The Paper, Jiang, who lived alone in Shanghai's Hongkou district, died of illness on December 14. As her parents had passed away previously, and she was unmarried with no children, the arrangements for her funeral and the disposition of her estate have drawn public attention.

Authorities in Hongkou district previously said that if the district civil affairs authority were designated as the estate administrator, it will handle the estate in accordance with the law, and any remaining assets, after statutory procedures, will be used for public welfare purposes.

According to the notice published on Hongkou civil affairs authority's WeChat account, after review and verification by the Shanghai Hongkou District People's Court, it was confirmed that all of Jiang's statutory heirs had predeceased her, and that she had not left a will or a bequest-support agreement during her lifetime.

According to the notice, individuals who had a bequest-support relationship with Jiang, were supported by her, or were dependent on her are requested to submit written materials, including proof of identity and relevant supporting documentation.

Jiang's creditors or debtors are requested to submit written materials, including proof of identity or legal entity status, and documentation proving creditor-debtor relationships.

Statutory heirs or other parties who object to the Hongkou district civil affairs bureau serving as the estate administrator are requested to submit written materials, including proof of identity and materials supporting the grounds for objection, the notice said. 

The notice specified that it is valid for three months from the date of publication.
