The Chinese embassy in Cambodia has located a Chinese woman at a hospital in Sihanoukville, who had previously been found stranded on the streets of Cambodia, the embassy said in a statement released on Sunday. According to the embassy, the woman said that she had been lured to the country by the promise of a "high-paying job" before ending up homeless.  According to media reports, the woman is an internet celebrity whose short-video platform account had 24,000 followers.

In recent days, media reported that a Chinese woman was found stranded on the streets of Cambodia. Upon learning of the news, the Chinese embassy in the country immediately contacted multiple departments, including the Cambodian police, as well as local individuals, to verify the situation and actively search for the woman, the statement read.

After days of inquiries, the Consular Office of the Embassy in Sihanoukville located the woman, surnamed Wu, on Saturday afternoon, at a hospital in the city. At that time, her physical condition was extremely poor, and the consular office promptly coordinated her transfer to another hospital for treatment.

According to Wu, she was lured to Cambodia by the promise of a "high-paying job" before ending up homeless on the streets. Currently, her physical condition has improved, and the consular office has contacted her family members to come to Cambodia to complete the procedures for her return to China.

The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia once again reminded all Chinese nationals that many of the so-called overseas "high-paying recruitment" offers are related to gray and black industries such as online gambling, telecom fraud, pornography, gambling and drugs.

"Once trapped in such industries, individuals are highly vulnerable to illegal detention, violent abuse and even life-threatening dangers," the statement read, "Do not easily believe such rumors or take desperate risks at the cost of personal safety or even life."

Recently, Chinese netizens posted online that a female internet celebrity was found wandering on the streets of Cambodia, with what appeared to be an injured leg. Photos circulating online showed that the woman looked haggard and was holding a CT scan report. Reports indicated that her account on a short-video platform had 24,000 followers, her IP address was registered in Cambodia, and her last video was posted in Cambodia on December 6, 2025.

Wu's father confirmed that the short-video platform account was indeed his daughter's. He also verified that the photos showing her wandering destitute on the streets and the passport information circulating online both belonged to his daughter, Jimu News reported. Since December 26 last year, the family has not been able to reach her, and he had already filed a report with the local police.
