When asked on Thursday about US Senator Lindsey Graham's remarks that US President Donald Trump had given the green light for a bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia -  a move designed to pressure countries like China, India and Brazil to stop purchasing cheap Russian oil, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded at a press conference that China has always opposed illegal unilateral sanctions. 

She emphasized that normal economic and energy cooperation between China and Russia is not directed at any third party and should not be interfered with or affected.
