Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun
Over the past year, China-US relations have experienced ups and downs but have maintained overall dynamic stability. This serves the common interests of the peoples of both countries and meets the shared expectations of the international community. The past year once again shows that cooperation benefits both China and the US, while confrontation harms both. China and the US should, on the basis of equality, mutual respect, and reciprocity, explore the right way for two major countries to get along, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday.
Guo made the remarks in response to an NHK reporter's question on US President Donald Trump's first year in office, during which his foreign policy—ranging from tough actions on Venezuela to remarks threatening to annex Greenland—has drawn widespread international attention. The reporter asked about China's assessment of the impact of these policies and whether more details were available on Trump's reported April visit to China.
China is willing to work with the US side to promote the stable development of bilateral relations, while firmly safeguarding its own sovereignty, security, and development interests, Guo said, noting that "Regarding the specific issues you mentioned, I have no information to provide at this time."
