China will work with relevant countries to jointly safeguard intl peace, tranquility, says FM on inquiry over Asian security model

In a world marked by intertwined turmoil, Asia is widely recognized as a high ground of global development and prosperity. This favorable situation has not come easily and deserves to be cherished, Guo Jiakun, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Guo made the remarks in response to questions on Asian security, including whether China would step up efforts to promote an Asian security model against the backdrop of recent US actions involving Greenland and Venezuela, as well as US arms sales to Taiwan region, and what China sees as the main threats to security in Asia and whether such a model means China would place greater focus on security issues within the Asian region.

China has consistently maintained that the purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be upheld, that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, and that differences and disputes between countries should be properly resolved through dialogue and consultation, Guo added.

Guo noted that China does not engage in geopolitical rivalry in its neighborhood, but is committed to good-neighborliness and friendship; it does not seek spheres of influence, but works to build a community with a shared future; and it does not dictate decision making, but believes regional affairs should be discussed and handled collectively. China will adhere to the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, and to the policies of fostering friendly, secure and prosperous relations with its neighbors. Working with regional countries, China will strive to build a shared home that is peaceful, secure, prosperous, beautiful and friendly.

China is a steadfast defender of international peace and security. It has proposed and practiced a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, and is advancing the implementation of the Global Security Initiative, with a view to achieving universal and common security. China is also actively applying approach with Chinese characteristic to resolve hotspot issues. It will work with relevant countries to promote the building of an Asian security model characterized by shared security and risks, respect for differences, dialogue and consultation, and jointly safeguard international peace and tranquility, Guo said.
