At the invitation of Premier of the State Council Li Qiang, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will pay an official visit to China from January 25 to 28, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Thursday.

In response to media inquiries over the arrangement of Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's China visit and expectation from the Chinese side, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that during Prime Minister Orpo's visit to China, President Xi Jinping will meet with him. Premier Li Qiang and chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Zhao Leji will hold talks and meetings with him respectively to have in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and issues of common interest.

According to the spokesperson, Finland was one of the earliest Western countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. In recent years, under the guidance and leadership of the two countries' head of state, the future-oriented new-type cooperative partnership between China and Finland has continued to deepen, with practical cooperation steadily advancing in various fields.

China attaches great importance to the development of China-Finland relations and stands ready to maintain close high-level exchanges with Finland, consolidate political mutual trust, strengthen economic and trade cooperation, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and coordination in multilateral affairs, and jointly elevate China-Finland relations to new heights, Guo said.
