New details have emerged following a tour bus-truck crash in Russia's Primorsky Krai that left three people dead on Thursday, per local media.
The regional branch of the local interior ministry said a criminal case has been opened over suspected violations of traffic regulations, according to RIA Novosti.
The administration of Khasansky District reported that nine people were injured in the crash. Two of the injured are currently in intensive care, while others sustained injuries of varying severity, per RIA Novosti.
Preliminary information indicates that five of the injured were taken to the Khasansky Central District Hospital, including three who were conscious and two receiving intensive care treatment. Hospitals in Ussuriysk and Vladivostok have also been placed on standby to receive additional patients if needed, according to the report.
Earlier, citing information from the Khasansky District administration, RIA Novosti reported that a heavy truck traveling from Razdolnoye lost control while turning, causing its trailer to skid into oncoming traffic and collide with a bus traveling from China. The accident resulted in the deaths of three Russian citizens. The five Chinese nationals on board the bus were not injured.
According to RIA Novosti, police said the truck driver involved in the crash was a Chinese national with six years of driving experience, per report.
Local authorities added that the collision triggered a chain reaction involving several other vehicles, ultimately damaging four additional cars, per RIA Novosti.
