A flight traveling from Phuket in Thailand to Barnaul of Russia declared an emergency on Friday and diverted to Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport in Northwest China's Gansu Province at 4:51 pm local time, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Friday.
The ZF2998 flight, operated by a Boeing 757-200, set its transponder code to 7700 after the crew reported distress and decided to make an emergency landing in Lanzhou.
Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport said the aircraft landed safely with 239 passengers and seven crew members on board, a total of 246 people, Xinhua reported.
Preliminary information shows the emergency was caused by a malfunction in the aircraft's right engine. The airport is currently coordinating follow-up arrangements for passengers and crew, per the report.
