In response to a media inquiry regarding the Cuban government recently condemning the illegal US blockade on Cuba's oil supply, which has severely impacted the Cuban economy and the daily lives of its people, constituting what international law describes as a form of "collective punishment," and considering the historical relationship between China and Cuba, when asked if there are any specific cooperative measures between the two countries to mitigate the impact of the blockade on Cuba in the energy sector, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated on Tuesday that China has taken note of the response from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which pointed out that this move is a brutal suppression of a peaceful country that harbors no hostility toward any nation, and also demonstrates that Cuba's economic difficulties are primarily caused by the US.
China expresses deep concern and opposition to the actions of the US, urges the US to cease depriving the Cuban people of their right to survival and development, stop undermining regional peace and stability, halt its actions that violate international law, and immediately lift the blockade and sanctions against Cuba, Guo said.
China will continue to provide Cuba with support and assistance within its capacity. China believes that under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban government, the Cuban people will surely overcome these temporary difficulties, noted Guo.
