On Tuesday, January 27 — International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust—the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders launched a TikTok account under the name "Nanjing Memorial," marking its third overseas social media platform after Facebook and X, in an effort to have another platform for overseas audiences to understand the historical truth, according to a release from the memorial hall.

Under the TikTok account, the Nanjing Memorial wrote "Remember history, cherish peace," and it also released a poster bearing the words "Remember for Peace" and "Nanjing Memorial."

In 2023, the memorial also launched official accounts on X and Facebook, sharing historical materials and archival videos that document the historical truth of the Nanjing Massacre. The accounts introduce books that record this history, including The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II by Iris Chang.

The Nanjing Massacre is one of the most barbaric episodes of World War II. The massacre following the Japanese troops' capture of Nanjing, the then Chinese capital, on December 13, 1937, left more than 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers dead. However, the Japanese public today seems ignorant of or unconcerned with the heinous crimes, revealing a troubling historical amnesia, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
