Commenting on Russia's statement that the London and Paris were considering transferring nuclear weapons or related capabilities to Kiev, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday that "I do not have relevant information." As a matter of principle, China has always maintained that nuclear weapons cannot be used and a nuclear war must not be fought. International nuclear non-proliferation obligations should be earnestly observed, Mao said.

Mao said that talks around the Ukraine crisis have commenced. It is hoped that all parties will seize the opportunity to reach a comprehensive, lasting and binding peace agreement.

"We call on relevant parties to remain calm and exercise restraint, and refrain from taking any moves that may lead to misunderstanding and miscalculation, or even escalate the situation," Mao added.
