When asked to comment on reports that China is in talks with Iran to allow crude oil and Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Friday that the Strait of Hormuz and its adjacent waters are vital international routes for trade in goods and energy. Maintaining security and stability in this region serves the common interests of the international community, Mao added.

China urges all parties to immediately cease military actions, avoid further escalation of tensions, prevent regional turbulence and avoid greater impacts on global economic development, the spokesperson said.
