Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning
When asked about the assistance the Chinese government has provided to Chinese passengers stranded in some Middle Eastern countries due to the current situation in the region, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press conference on Friday that "We attach great importance to the situation of Chinese passengers stranded in Middle Eastern countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs activated the emergency response mechanism at the earliest opportunity, guiding relevant Chinese embassies and consulates abroad to strengthen communication with foreign parties and making every effort to provide assistance to stranded compatriots."
We also held urgent consultations with domestic competent authorities such as the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and pushed airlines to resume flights as soon as possible on the premise of ensuring safety. With the joint efforts of all parties, relevant work has made positive progress, Mao said.
According to Mao, on Wednesday evening, a foreign airline flight carrying nearly 300 Chinese citizens safely arrived in Guangzhou from Dubai. Starting from Thursday, Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines have successively resumed round-trip flights to and from the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Mao said, "We once again solemnly remind that the current situation in the Middle East remains complex and severe, with considerable uncertainty. Chinese citizens are advised to avoid traveling to countries and regions affected by military conflicts. Those already in the area should closely follow relevant information and seize the window of opportunity created by the resumption of flights to leave as soon as possible. If necessary, please contact Chinese embassies and consulates in the region or call the 12308 hotline for assistance."
