When a certain country announced its withdrawal from global environmental governance frameworks such as the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, China has been actively participating in global climate governance and making contributions, He Hong, a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) who is also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, told the Global Times on Friday.

Many partner countries of China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative are currently going through the same industrialization process that China experienced in the past, He said while attending a plenary meeting of the Beijing delegation during the ongoing "two sessions."

"The experience we gained in tackling air pollution, new energy and transforming our energy structure, as well as the technologies we accumulated and the industries we developed, are exactly what these countries urgently need. Enabling these experiences, technologies, and industries to go abroad is not only a response to their needs, but also a concrete manifestation of China's active participation in global governance," he said.

The deputy also mentioned that Beijing's environment has been steadily improving. "Blue skies are now common in Beijing. More than a decade ago, that was something people could only 'wish for.' Now fewer people take photos of blue skies, because they can see them almost every day," He said.
