Humanity’s enemies are not one another, but war, poverty, hunger and injustice. These challenges cannot be tackled alone, nor can any country remain unaffected. We must unite, cooperate, and work together for our shared planet. Isolation leads to helplessness; unity brings strength. People around the world are increasingly recognizing the contemporary value and the truth of the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity, which, like a beacon, are lighting the way forward for humanity, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during the press conference on Sunday on the sidelines of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress. He answered questions from journalists from home and abroad on China’s foreign policy and external relations, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Wang made the remarks when responding to a question from the Global Times about why China’s diplomacy aims to build a community with a shared future for humanity amid the current situation in which global conflicts are growing and competition and confrontation are intensifying.

Humanity is currently living in an era full of challenges, yet history shows that in every difficult time there have always been pioneers striving for ideals and hope. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s proposal to build a community with a shared future for humanity demonstrates the foresight and broad vision of a leader of a major country, and answers the era’s question of where humanity should be headed. It aims to present the world that humanity’s enemies are not one another, but war, poverty, hunger and injustice. These challenges cannot be tackled alone, nor can any country remain unaffected. We must unite, cooperate, and work together for our shared planet. Isolation leads to helplessness; unity brings strength. People around the world are increasingly recognizing the contemporary value and the truth of the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity, which, like a beacon, are lighting the way forward for humanity, Wang said.

The vision of a community with a shared future for humanity also reflects China’s sense of responsibility and historic mission as a major country toward the world. The Chinese people have long embraced the vision that the world belongs to all and have pursued the ideal of universal harmony under heaven. The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the rise of a major country with a population of 1.4 billion will never follow the old path of seeking hegemony and expansion taken by traditional major powers. Instead, China will steadfastly pursue a path of peaceful development and promote all countries to follow the same path, jointly building a world of lasting peace, universal security, common prosperity, openness and inclusiveness, and a clean and beautiful world, according to the Chinese foreign minister.

We are pleased to see that in recent years, the concept of building a community with a shared future for humanity has increasingly resonated with people. It has received support from over 100 countries and international organizations and gained nearly 80 percent approval in international public opinion, and seen more than 40 countries and regional organizations join efforts to build this community. This again demonstrates the Chinese proverb which goes “a just cause rallies abundant support,” and just causes will earn the backing of nations and unite the strength of the people, the Chinese foreign minister said.

The future of humanity is bright, but this bright future will not arrive automatically. Building a community with a shared future for humanity is not only a noble vision but also a historical process that requires successive generations to strive and work together. China will, with firm belief and practical action, join hands with all sides to continuously turn the vision of a community with a shared future for humanity into reality, Wang said.
