A local people's procuratorate in Xinxiang in Central China's Henan Province filed a public prosecution on Friday with the Xinxiang Intermediate People's Court against Shi Yongxin (formerly known as Liu Yingcheng), former abbot of Shaolin Temple, on charges of embezzlement, misappropriation of funds, bribery by a non-state functionary, and offering bribes, according to a statement published by the Xinxiang Municipal People's Procuratorate on Friday.
During the review and prosecution stage, the procuratorial authorities, in accordance with the law, informed the defendant Shi of his procedural rights, interrogated the defendant, and heard the opinions of his defense counsel, according to the statement.
