"Go and enjoy the blossoms, go and seek romance" — this is the spring break initiative launched by a college in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, which plans to grant a holiday from April 1 to 6 for all faculty, staff, and students.
"Let us set aside books and work, cast away worries, bring along our families and loved ones, invite friends, and embark on a spring break to embrace the beauty of spring," read a notice posted on the official WeChat account of Sichuan Southwest Vocational College of Civil Aviation.
The college is one of the first higher education institutions in China to introduce a spring break system, and has implemented it for eight consecutive years, domestic news site china.com reported.
A faculty member from the college said that encouraging students to step off campus through spring outings, to appreciate nature and experience romance is a vital initiative that integrates life education, emotional education, and social practice, according to the report.
The spring break does not reduce class hours; instead, it makes proper adjustments to weekends and the Qingming Festival holiday, allowing teachers and students to enjoy concentrated rest time, the college was cited by china.com as saying.
The college has also assigned practical activities related to the spring break theme, such as keeping travel journals, making handmade crafts, and creating videos, according to the report. Upon returning to campus, students will showcase their spring break projects.
The spring break allows teachers and students to experience the vitality of nature and life, enabling them to maintain a better balance between study and work, and to lead a more fulfilling life, china.com reported, citing a faculty member from the college.
