"Have you ever seen a precedent of someone breaking into an embassy with a knife to talk to the ambassador without permission?" Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian asked in response to a media inquiry from a reporter from Japan's Kyodo News that according to Japanese media reports, the member of Japan's Self-Defense Forces who broke into the Chinese Embassy had intended to speak with the Chinese ambassador, which does not match China's account.

Lin noted that the offender was an officer of the Self-Defense Forces who illegally scaled over the wall and broke into the Chinese Embassy while carrying a knife as long as 18 centimeters. This is fact that has already been verified by Japanese police. It is also an indisputable fact that he threatened to kill Chinese diplomatic personnel "in the name of God." The Japanese side must conduct a full and serious investigation into the incident.
