China is deeply concerned about the tense situation in the Middle East and its severe impact on regional and international peace and stability. An immediate ceasefire and end to the fighting are the top priority, and dialogue and negotiation provide the only viable way forward. China supports all efforts conducive to easing tensions, de-escalating the situation and resuming dialogue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on Wednesday.

Lin made these remarks when asked to comment on the latest developments regarding the situation in Iran, after US media reported that US President Donald Trump said he had presented Iran with a peace proposal and expressed optimism about ending the conflict that has lasted for nearly a month, while Iran also announced that "non-hostile" oil tankers would be permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
