"As for what measures the Japanese side will take to properly handle this incident, and how it will ensure at the root that similar incidents do not happen again, I suggest you ask the Japanese side directly. China and the international community are both watching closely," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday in response to an inquiry from a Reuters' reporter on whether the Japanese side had given China any assurances, following the forcible intrusion by a sitting officer of Japan's Self-Defense Forces into the Chinese Embassy, that such incident would not happen again in the future, and whether the incident would deepen the rift between the two countries.

The incident once again reflects the rampant spread of far-right thinking and forces in Japan, and shows that "new militarism" has become a growing problem. It also exposed the deep-rooted harmful effects of the Japanese government's wrong policies on major core issues concerning China-Japan relations, including history and the Taiwan region, said Lin.

Lin said Japan had failed to properly supervise and educate members of its Self-Defense Forces and had also failed to fulfill its security responsibilities toward Chinese diplomatic missions and personnel.
