China has always believed that military and security cooperation between countries should not target any third party or harm the interests of any third party, nor should such cooperation undermine regional peace and stability, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press conference on Thursday, when asked to comment on reports that a US-led defense manufacturing partnership is exploring building a new ammunition production line in the Philippines to help allies produce and maintain military equipment closer to potential demand regions, and asked whether China will take corresponding measures to ensure its own security.

Lin said the Asia-Pacific is the most important engine and stabilizer for global development and prosperity. The US and its allies should earnestly respect the shared aspirations of regional countries, do more things that are conducive to peace and stability, and refrain from introducing bloc confrontation and conflict into the Asia-Pacific.

Lin added that if relevant countries dare to act as "powder kegs" or "ammunition depots," such moves will ultimately backfire on themselves. China will firmly safeguard its national sovereignty, security, and development interests, and defend its legitimate rights and interests.
